BLA’AN

The Bla’an people, also known as, Balud, Baraan, Biraan, Bilanes, and many others are largely from Davao del Sur.

Dry cultivation of food plants, combined with food collection and hunting, is an important component of Blaan culture. Rice, corn, and millet are commonly produced. Corn gradually replacing rice as a staple. The gardens also include sugarcane, bananas, and root crops. The Blaan language belongs to a group that includes the Tiruray and T’boli. The community’s dwellings follow the similar pattern of scattered villages. They remain within the sight of one another, usually among swidden fields.
